To the Doctor:
I have a 2000 Honda Odyssey, and the catalytic converter light is on. How can I solve this problem without actually changing the converter? I cannot get a brake tag in the state of Louisiana because this light is on. Any advice? Can I clear the light without changing the converter?
The Doc Says:
Have you taken the car to a Honda dealer yet? It might be a stretch, but if the Check Engine light is on and the catalytic converter has indeed failed, the manufacturer might have to warranty the part. Certain parts of vehicle emissions systems are now warranted for up to 120,000 miles. Plus, a second opinion on what is causing the Check Engine light to come on couldn't hurt.
You can try resetting the light (many auto parts stores will do this for free), but if the emissions system is compromised, chances are the light will come back on as soon as the vehicle is started.
If it were me, I'd get a second opinion about what is causing the light to come on and proceed from there.
